Who can use the Home Library Service?

The Home Library Service is available to Darebin community members of any age who are: 

  • Unable to visit the library for reasons of disability, illness or age
  • Residing in an aged care facility
  • Full-time carers unable to visit the library during opening hours
  • Children and youth whose guardian is unable to visit the library for any of the above reasons

What is the Home Library Service?

Our dedicated home library service team select items matched to your interests and deliver to your door.

We aim to provide the same quality of service you would expect from a visit to your local library, in the comfort of your own home. 

We also provide over-the-phone and in-person support to access the digital library, which includes eBooks, eAudiobooks, film and music streaming, magazines, newspapers, educational and language resources, and more.

The library's physical collection includes the following items in English, Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Italian and Vietnamese

  • Fiction and non-fiction books

  • Biographies

  • Large print

  • Picture books and board books

  • DVDs

  • CDs

  • Audiobooks

  • Magazines 

We also have Hindi DVDs, Spanish fiction and picture books, and Somali picture books.  

For people with a vision impairment or disability that prevents them from reading print material easily, we have digital audio playback devices (DAISY Players) available.
